Hand carved inscription, Dulwich Picture Gallery

Earlier this week Martin spent the day on his knees producing this hand carved inscription at Dulwich Picture Gallery.

Martin has created many hand carved inscriptions for the Dulwich Picture Gallery over the years.  Martin’s hand carving can also been seen on his largest project to date, The Great Court of The British Museum.

Each letter is hand drawn and hand carved in stone.

The vast majority of Martin Cook’s carving are made at his Buckinghamshire workshop where he works making individually designed and hand carved stone artworks.  Martin’s son, Matthew, is also a carver and has worked along side his Father for the past ten years.  Martin comes from a long line of carvers dating back to 1700’s.

You can see Martin’s work this year at Grand Designs Live, Chelsea Flower Show and Hampton Court Flower Show.  Martin & Matthew will be working on commissions live at the shows, demonstrating the skill of hand carving.
