We are delighted to say that The Antithesis of Sarcophagi Garden by Martin Cook and Gary Breeze won a Gold Medal at Chelsea Flower Show this year.  They were also awarded the Best Fresh Garden 2016.

The garden was a major hit with the public, Royals and celebrities.  The RHS had to construct barriers to control the crowds waiting to experience the magic of the hidden woodland inside the 44 tonne granite cube.  The wait time was as long as 40 minutes.  But like good true Brits the crowds where happy to wait in line.  The waiting time allowed Martin Cook, Gary Breeze and staff from The Marble and Granite Centre to explain the concept of the garden, entertain the crowds and hand out the leaflets.

Martin Cook and Gary Breeze were fortunate enough to spend 15 minutes with Princes William and Harry and Kate during the Royal visit to RHS Chelsea Flower.  They loved the garden!

The whole experience has been an emotional roller coaster.  Starting with travelling to Portugal to select the granite,  installing the cube at the show ground and planting out the cube.  And now the Chelsea Flower Show has nearly finished for 2016 there is no time to rest.  The interest from institutions, galleries and individuals is huge.  We hope to see different versions of The Antithesis of Sarcophagi garden appearing around the World.

Martin Cook and Gary Breeze would like to thank Stephen Pike of The Marble and Granite Centre Limited for his sponsorship and encouragement.  Chris Holland of Chris Holland Landscapes, Horsham, for his brilliance and endless knowledge of landscaping and planting.  This is the third Chelsea Flower Show that Chris Holland has worked on with Martin Cook, winning 2 Golds and a Silver/Gilt.

Well done also to Matthew, Martins’s son for the fantastic trade stand construction and help with The Antithesis of Sarcophagi Garden.

In the BBC interview, broadcast 26th May, Joe Swift congratulated Martin Cook and Gary Breeze on their amazing garden and their success, finishing the interview with ‘I cant wait to see what you will do next at Chelsea ‘! Watch this space!
