Welsh Slate Standing Stone for Savill Garden – Crown Estates press release
The standing stone, made from Welsh slate, which carries a verse from the Robert Graves poem ‘The cool web’ acts as a destination drawing visitors into the garden and amongst the swathes of scented roses in Summer. The reverse of the standing stone acknlowledges all those involved with the Rose Garden project and records its opening by Her Majesty The Queen on 7th June 2010.
The commission was coordinated by Pat Jordan-Evans, Director of The Bohun Gallery in Henley on Thames, where Martin’s work is regulary exhibited. Commenting on the piece Patricia said:
‘It is very fitting that Martin’s elegant standing stone should be sited in this innovative and contemporary garden”.
